A blue-eyed madam.

The other day, I had lunch with Yamaguchi from Guild. We went out for pasta, and the restaurant was surprisingly stylish. The owner and staff were all very welcoming.
We drove there in Yamaguchi’s little kei truck, which felt hilariously out of place given the atmosphere.
The restaurant was filled entirely with female customers, which, I must admit, made me quite happy.
Then I noticed a Japanese lady sitting diagonally across from us.
She had striking blue eyes. They were probably colored contact lenses, but they suited her perfectly.
Because of my work, I spend a lot of time with people from overseas, so I’m used to seeing all kinds of eye colors.
For a brief, rather inappropriate moment, I caught myself thinking how wonderful it would be to wake up in bed and have someone with eyes like that looking at me.
It made me laugh at myself.

The photo reminded me of the first time I saw Josh in Australia ten years ago and thought, “Oh, he’s a good-looking guy.”
I called him the other day, but his accent was so strong that I could barely understand what he was saying.
The one thing that hadn’t changed was how often he said “fuck.”
